Stephanas

STEPHANAS, the Name of one of the 1 Cor. i. 16.principal Christians of Corinth, whom St. Paul baptized, with all his Family, probably about the 52d Year of Christ, or of the Vulgar Era. St. Stephanas devoted himself to the Service of the Church; and in the Year of our Saviour 56 he came to St. Paul 1 Cor. xvi. 17. & vii. 1.at Ephesus, and, according to Saint Chrysostom, brought him Letters which the Chrysost. in 1 Cor. homil. 44. p. 486.Church of Corinth wrote to him, to consult him concerning Marriage, Continence, and perhaps other Subjects; which St. Paul treats of in his First Epistle to the Corinthians. The Apostle wrote it from Ephesus in the 56th Year, and it was sent by Stephanas, Fortunatus, and Achaicus. We know of no other Particulars of the Life of St. Stephanas.
