Pathros

PATHROS, or Phaturis, a City and Canton of Egypt, of which the Prophets JeremiahJerem. xliv. 1, 15. Ezek. xxix. 14. xxx. 14. Isai. xi. 2. Gen. x. 14. Gen. x. 14. and Ezekiel make mention. We do not very well know its Situation, though Pliny1 and Ptolemy the Geographer speak of it by the Name of Phaturis, and it appears to have been in Upper Egypt. Isaiah calls it Pathros, and ‘tis the Country of the Pathrusim, the Posterity of Mizraim, of whom Moses speaks. Ezekiel threatens them with an entire Ruin. The Jews retired thither notwithstanding the Remonstrances of Jeremiah, and the Lord says by Isaiah, that he will bring them back from thence.
