Volume II · M

Mishael

Dan. i. 7.MISHAEL, or Misael, one of the three Companions of Daniel, to whom at the Court of Nebuchadnezzar they gave the Chaldæan Name of Meshach. He was one of those who were cast into the burning Furnace, from which he was miraculously delivered1. They had been preferred by King Nebuchadnezzar to the Office of inspecting the Affairs of the Countrey in the Province of Babylon; but when the Fidelity that they owed to God was concerned, they chose rather to disobey the King, than to displease God by worshipping Idols. The Article of DANIEL may be consulted.
