Migma

MIGMA, a Greek Word; read Isai. xxx. 24. Vulgate, Commistum migma comedent. It answers to the Hebrew Word Belil1, which signifies a Mixture. This Text is differently translated. The Seventy; They shall eat Chaff mingled with Barley. The Hebrew; They shall eat a sour Mixture which has been winnowed, and tossed in the Air. This sour Mixture was of some Grain of a sharpish Taste, to whet the Appetite of the Animals, especially in hot Weather. See Bochart, de Anim. Sacr. Parte i. l. ii. c. 7. [Our English Version reads this whole Passage thus. The Oxen likewise and the young Asses that ear the Ground, shall eat clean Provender which has been winnowed with the Shovel and with the Fan.]
