JULIAS, otherwise Livias; for Josephus generally calls Livia Augustus’s wife by the name of Julia. There were two cities of this name in Judea; one built by Herod Antipas at the mouth of the river Jordan in the lake of Tiberias; otherwise called Bethsaida; and in the Gospel it goes by no other name but that of Bethsaida. We are of opinion, that it lay beyond Jordan, in the Gaulanitis. See Bethsaida.
