Ishbibenob

2 Sam. xxi. 16, 17.ISHBIBENOB, or Ishbi the son of Ob, of the race of the giants or Rephaims. The iron of his spear, or rather his spear, as the Hebrew implies, weighed three hundred shekels, that is to say, an hundred and fifty ounces, or twelve pounds and a half, at twelve ounces to the pound. This giant being upon the point of killing David, who was fatigued in the battle, was himself killed by Abishai the son of Zerviah. Hereupon David’s people made this protestation to him; we will not suffer thee any more to go out unto the war with us, least thou put out the light of Israel.
