Hur (I)

I. HUR, the son of Caleb, the son of Esron, different from Caleb the son of Jepunneh. Hur, if we believe Josephus, was husband to Miriam, the sister of Moses. Others say, he was his son; we know very few particulars concerning the life of Hur: but by the little which the Scripture says of him, we see that Moses had a great regard for him. When this Legislator had sent Joshua against the Amalekites, he went up the Mountain with Hur and Aaron in his company; and while he lifted up his hands praying to the Lord, Aaron and Hur supported his arms, to prevent his growing weary. And when Moses ascended Mount Sinai, in order to receive the Law there, he told the Elders, that if any difficulty should arise, they had Aaron and Hur with them, whom they might consult. Hur was the father of Uri, and Uri the father of Bezeliel.
