Hai

Josh. vii. 3, 4. In the year of the World 2553.HAI, or Ai, a City situated near Bethel, to the west of it. The Septuagint call it Agai; Josephus, Aina; and others Aiath. Joshua having sent a body of three thousand men against Ai, God permitted them to be repulsed, because of Achan’s sin, who had violated the anathema, whereby Jericho and every thing in it was devoted to destruction, by reserving to himself some part of the spoil. But after the expiation of this crime, Hai or Ai was taken, burnt, and sacked by the Hebrews. See AI.
