HADID, or Chadid, a City of Benjamin. Ezra ii. 33. Nehem. xi. 34. It is the same, in all probability, as Adida or Adiada in Joseph. Antiq. l. xiii. c. 1. & 23. 1 Macc. xii. 38. xiii. 13.Josephus, and the Books of Maccabees. They place it in Sephela, or in the Plain of Judah. But I do not know whether this City belonged originally to Benjamin: I should think rather, that a cession was made of it to this Tribe, after the return from the Captivity, and that Adida is the same as Adithaim in the Tribe of Judah. Josh. xv. 36. Eusebius and St. Jerom speak of two Cities called Aditha, or Adi; one near Gaza, the other near Diospolis, or Lydda. All this, as well as Sephela, carries us too far from the Canton of Benjamin.
