GURBAAL. This word is to be found only in the second Book of Chronicles, where it is said, that the Lord in a particular manner was assisting to Uzziah against the Philistins, and against the Arabians that dwelt at Gurbaal. The Septuagint read it, against the Arabians that dwelt above Petra. It is my opinion, that Gurbaal and Gabal, or the Gabalene, are the same. The Gabalene I have spoken of above; it extends itself into Arabia Petræa and Idumæa, and lies beyond the limits of Palestine, southward.
