I. GEMARIAH, the son of Hilkiah, was sent to Babylon with Elasah the son of Shaphan, from Zedekiah King of Judah, to carry the Tribute-Money to Nebuchadnezzar. They were likewise charged with a Letter written from Jeremiah to the captives of Babylon, wherein he warned them to take care how they suffered themselves to be surprized by certain False Prophets, who flattered them with the promises of a speedy return. See Jerem. xxix. 3, 4. about the Year of the World 3408.
