Ganges

GANGES, a river of Asia, the spring whereof rises in Mount Caucasus, from whence it continues its course till it discharges itself into the Indian ocean. It divides the Indies into two parts, and runs through the Province of Indostan. There is no express mention made of it in the Scripture, and the reason of our giving it a place here, is only because some pretend that this was the river Pison spoken of by Moses, which was one of the four, that flowed out of Eden. But it is too far from the Tigris and Euphrates, which were certainly two of the rivers of Paradise, for any one to believe, that Pison proceeded from the same spring. It is above twelve hundred leagues from the Euphrates.
