Gadara (II)

II. GADARA, a city of Palestine, in the neighbourhood of Diospolis and Strabo, l. 16. Stephan. in GadaraNicopolis. We believe it to be the same as Gazer, Gazera, Gedor, Gadera, Gador, Gaderoth, whereof there is frequent mention in the books of Maccabees and Josephus. See Reland. Palæstin. l. 3. p.679. We have already observed, that in the text of Josephus, the reading was in some places Gadara, instead of Gabara. Gabara lay to the west, and Gadara to the east of the sea of Tiberias.
