Gabaa

GABAA in Hebrew signifies a Hill; we should not therefore be surprized to see so many places in a mountainous country like that of Judæa, called Gibeah, Gibeon, Gabbatha, Gibethon, Gabbath, Gabe; all which signify no more than Eminence; and sometimes proper names in scripture called Gibeah, are translated Hills1. For example, Zech. xiv. 10. Revertetur omnis terra de colle Remnon ad austrum Jerusalem. In the Hebrew; All the land shall be turned as a plain from Geba to Rimmon. And on the contrary, Gibeah mentioned in 1 Sam. vii. 1. as a city, is no more than an hill in Kirjath-jearim.
