Front

FRONT, or Forehead. The expressions, a brazen Front, the Front of a lewd woman, a hardned Front, are used for an impudent person, an insolent and obdurate sinner. Isaiah, Frons tua ærea. Jeremiah, Frons mulieris meretricis. Ezekiel, Domus Israel attritâ fronte est. God tells this Prophet, that he will make his face stronger than that of the wicked Israelites, and his Forehead harder than that of those to whom he sent him.

It is believed, that God impressed some sign on Cain’s Forehead, that he might be known more easily; much after the manner of his marking those Israelites on the Forehead with the letter Tau, who lamented, and had no share in the irregularities of their brethren; and as in the Revelations, God causes his Elect to be distinguished by a sign Rev. vii. 3. ix. 4.upon the Forehead, to prevent their being confounded with sinners.
