Fountain sealed

Cant. iv. 13.FOUNTAIN sealed, Fons signatus, mentioned likewise in Solomon’s Song, is probably bably an allegory, representing the chastity of the Holy Spouse. Travellers speak of a considerable Fountain to be seen at a league and an half’s distance from Bethlehem, whereof we have already spoken under the word ETHAN. Here, as is supposed, was Solomon’s sealed Fountain. But this is all very uncertain. As for the Fountain of Ethan, or the waters which are shewn near Bethlehem, any one may consult the travellers Cotovic. Eugen. Roger, le Brun, P. 272.who have taken notice of them, and described the reservoirs, where they are kept. From hence came the water, which Pilate conveyed to Jerusalem, some years before the war between the Romans and the Jews.

Jacob’s FOUNTAIN, or Well, was near the City of Schechem. John iv. 5, 6.
