II. ELIAKIM, the son of Hilkiah, steward of the houshold to King Hezekiah. The Hebrew text may be so construed as to 2 Kings xviii. 18.signify, that he had the care of the Temple, or the house of God; for House absolutely taken, often signifies the Temple. It is our opinion, that Eliakim was the son of 2 Kings xviii. 18, 26, 37. xxii 8, 10. xxiii. 4. 24.Hilkiah the High-Priest, who lived in the reign of Hezekiah; and that he succeeded his father, and enjoyed the dignity of High -Priest under Manasseh. He was Isai. xxii. 20, 21. Judith iv. 5. Judith. xv. 9.High-Priest during the siege of Bethulia. He is sometimes called Jehoiakim; and there is a great deal of probability, that he is the same as Hilkiah, who lived in the reign of Josiah, and afterwards.
