ELANITE, or ELANITICK. The Elanitick Gulph derives its name from the City of Ela or Ailan, which is situated upon the eastern shore of the Red Sea. Pliny makes it to be an hundred and fifty miles from Gaza to Elath; and Strabo to be twelve hundred and sixty furlongs. Elath or Elan was one of the three ports in the Red Sea. The first was at Berenice; the second at Clysma; and the third at Elath.
