OF the Protestants, there are Zegerus, Cameronius, Casaubon, Drusius, Lewis and James Capellus, Henry Stephens, and Grotius; all whose Notes are in the seventh Tome of the Great Criticks: and separately with what they have published on the New Testament. See their Title in the Index.
Lewis de Dieu, in Epistolas Canonicas separatim, in 4to. His Notes, with every thing besides written by him upon the New Testament, were printed at Leyden, 1627, and 1646, in 4to.
Fabricius, in his Bibliotheca Græca, tom. 3. l. 4. chap. 5. sets down all those who have written upon every canonical Epistle in particular, and those too who have written upon all the Books of the New Testament, from Page 207, to 212.
With Fabricius we may join F. Alexander, who, in the first Century of his Ecclesiastical History, has treated of the same.
We shall add Joachim Langius, who put out an Explanation of the two Epistles of St. Peter, and three of St. John, in Latin; printed at Hall in Saxony, in 1713, and 1714. in two Volumes in 4to. If this Author could be divested of that passionate Inclination, so common to those of his Sect, of speaking against the Church of Rome, his Work might be good, and useful to every one.
