Article XLVIII. Comments upon the Epistle to Philemon.

ST. Jerom has a Comment upon this Epistle. I say nothing of St. Chrysostom, and those who followed him; nor of the Authors who have written upon all St. Paul’s Epistles.

James Pamelius published his Comment upon this Epistle in the fifth Volume of Rabanus Maurus’s Works, p. 1611. It is very small: and, for the Author, we have spoken of him upon Judith.

Francis Feuardent, a Franciscan, has likewise written upon the Epistle to Philemon.

John Vincent wrote a familiar Explanation of this Epistle; printed at Paris, in 1647. He was of Limoges, a Feuillant, and firnamed de Saint Martial. He died in 1648.

Philip Paræus, his Comment was printed with his other upon the Epistle of St. Jude. See above to the Romans.

Christian Frederick Franckepstan wrote Observations upon this Epistle; printed at Hall in Saxony, 1657. and at Lipsick, 1665, in 12mo. He was a German Lutheran of Lipsick, and died in 1679.

Scipio Gentilis, his Comment was printed at Nuremberg, 1618, in 4to. He was Brother to Alberic, mentioned by us upon the Maccabees; was, like him, a Lutheran of Altorf, and died in 1616.

To these we may add John Pricæus, Lambert Danæus, Francis Gomar, Abraham Scultet, and the Paraphrase of Sebastian Schmid, which is with that written by him upon the first Epistle to Timothy: See higher. The Comment made by Lambert Danæus, was printed at Geneva, 1579, in 8vo. and in his Opuscula, ibid. 1654, in fol. See above.

Daniel Dyke also, an Englishman, has an Exposition of this Epistle in his own Language; printed at London, 1618, in 4to.
