EE our Preface to this Book, and the Sment concerning the Birth, Resurrection, and Ascension of our Saviour, has said that they might indeed be applied to him; but they afforded no solid Proofs, and for this reason were not made use of by the Apostles against the Jews, they endeavouring to convince them only by the evidence of our Saviour’s Miracles and Resurrection. Our learned Prelate accounts for the Mistakes of Grotius, by shewing that he chose bad Guides, and followed Crellius, and other declared Enemies of Christ’s Divinity; that if, towards the end of his Life, he came nearer to the Truths taught in the Catholick Church, yet he did not suppress all those Errors in his Notes upon the Scripture, which he had drawn from Springs so corrupt as are the Books of the Socinians.
The Preservative against these Errors is to be found in the Explanations which the Fathers, and even the Apostles, have given of those Passages in the Old Testament, wherein the Messiah is spoken of; which Explanations are produced by the Bishop of Meaux, in what he has added upon the Psalms.
