Article X. Of the Jewish Feasts in particular.

THE Jubilee, Passover, Dedication, and Expiation, were the principal Feasts of the ancient Jews, as they still continue to be at present.

Henr. Culens, Jubilæi veterum Hebræorum, & novi Christianorum Collatio, printed at Antwerp, 1601, and 1618, in 8vo. He was of Cortemberg in Brabant, made a Doctor at Louvain, in 1597, and Curate of Grammont.

Joan. Opirini, de Jubilæo Judæorum & Christianorum.

Josephi de Voisin, de Jubilæo secundum Hebræos, printed at Paris, 1655, in 4to. He was of Bourdeaux, Chaplain to the Prince of Conti, and died it 1685.

Christoph. Wagenseil, Disput. de anno Jubilæo secundum Hebræos. This Dissertation is upon the Jubilee Year according to the Hebrews, and was printed at Strasburg, 1700, in 4to. He was of Nuremberg, a Lutheran, and Professor of the Oriental Languages. He died in 1706.

Andr. Adami Hochstettur, de Festo Expiationis, printed at Tubingen, 1707, in 4to. He was a German Lutheran, and Professor at Tubingen.

Joan. Ernest. Gerhard, Exercitatio de Jubilæis Judæorum & Romanorum Pontificum, printed at Jena 1658, and at Tubingen 1677, in 4to. He was Son of John Gerhard. See their Title in the Index.

Comparatio anniversaria Expiationis Pontificis maximi cum unica & æterna Expiatione Jesu Christi, by James Rhenferd, at Franekar, 1696, in 8vo.

Upon the Feast of the Passover, see what we have said of it in our Dissertation on this Subject prefixed to our Comment on St. Matthew, and Maimonides, de Solemnitate Paschali, apud Crenium, fascic. 7.

Henry May, or Maius, the Son, published in Latin Maimonides’s Treatise concerning the Privileges of the seventh Year, and of the Jubilee, together with a Preliminary Dissertation, printed at Frankfort on the Mein, 1708, in 4to. He not only translates his Author’s Text very faithfully, but has added Notes, explaining the difficult Places of it. In his Dissertation he draws up a short Abstract of the Doctrine which Maimonides sets forth in his Treatise.

As to the Feast of Dedication, there are scarce any besides German Authors who have written of it, as may be seen in Lipenius’s Bibliotheca Theologica & Philosophica, upon the Word Encænia.
