Butter

Job xxxii. 2.BUTTER, is taken in Scripture, as it has been almost perpetually in the East, for Cream or liquid Butter. See our Comment upon Genesis, xviii. 8. and the Supplement at the end of the Revelations. Children were fed with Butter and Honey. Isai. vii. 15, 22. that is to say, with Milk-diet, with Cream, and Honey, which was very common in Palestine. Some think that by the name of Butyrum, in the Scripture, we are to understand Cheese. But we cannot be of their opinion. The Hebrews have a particular name to signify Cheese, different from that which they make use of to signify Cream or Butter.
