Blasphemy

BLASPHEMY. A man is guilty of the sin of Blasphemy, when he speaks of God or his Attributes in an injurious manner, when he ascribes such qualities to him as do not belong to him, or robs him of those which do. The Law passes sentence of death upon Levit. xxiv. 12. 16.Blasphemers. Whosoever heard another blaspheming, and was a witness to his offence, laid his hand upon the criminal’s head, to express as it were by this ceremony, that he laid the whole blame and punishment of this action upon him. The guilty Person was led out of the city, and all the people stoned him.
