Balak

2 Kings xx. 12.BALAK, the Son of Zippor, King of the Moabites. He seeing the multitude of Israelites which were incamped upon the confines of his Country, and apprehending they would attack him as they had the Amorites, sent deputies to Balaam the Diviner, desiring him to come and Numb. xxii. xxiii. xxiv. xxv. — xxv. & seq.curse or devote this people. Balaam came, as is related in the Article belonging to him, but instead of cursing the Israelites he heaped blessings on them. Balak inraged at this, dismissed Balaam, without rewarding him so well as he intended. But Balaam having advised him to ingage the Israelites to sin, by inviting them to the Feasts of Peor, Balak followed his counsel, which was equally pernicious to him, who gave it, to those who followed it, and to those against whom it was given. The Israelites who were thus betrayed into this crime, were killed by that part of their Brethren, who continued faithful to the Lord. Balaam was involved in the slaughter which was made of the Midianites; and lastly the Midianites, who had been most zealous in — xxxi. 1, 2, &c. Ibid.corrupting the Hebrews, were cut in pieces, and their country plundered. We know nothing concerning the Death of Balak, God not permitting them to attack the Moabites, by reason of their Father Deut. ii. 1.Lot, Abraham’s Nephew.
