Question 126. Whether she was miraculously conceived?
QUAESTIO CXXVI. Utrum fuerit miraculose concepta?
Post haec probatur, quod erat miraculose concepta: quia
1. Si a nullo illustrium vincitur, et minus illustres sunt miraculose concepti: ergo et ipsa.
2. Item, Dicit Damascenus, quod per supplicationem et repromissionem fuit nata: ergo supernaturaliter.
3. Item, Signatum perfectius est signo: sed figurae beatissimae Virginis fiebant divina voluntate per se operante et non humana: ergo beata Virgo exiit in esse, natura superiori agente contra inferiorem: ergo supernaturalis fuit ejus conceptio.
QUESTION 126. Whether she was miraculously conceived?
After this it is proved that she was miraculously conceived, because:
1. If she is surpassed by none of the illustrious, and less illustrious persons were miraculously conceived, then so also was she.
2. Likewise, Damascene says that she was born through supplication and promise. Therefore she was born supernaturally.
3. Likewise, the thing signified is more perfect than the sign. But the figures of the most blessed Virgin came about by the divine will working by itself and not by human will. Therefore the blessed Virgin came forth into being with the higher nature acting against the lower. Therefore her conception was supernatural.
