Question 110. Whether she knew the matter of the book of the Sentences?
QUAESTIO CX. Utrum sciverit materiam libri Sententiarum?
Post haec quaeritur de materia libri Sententiarum.
Materia enim primi libri ad duo reducitur, ad materiam de Trinitate, et ad materiam de praedestinatione et potentia Dei et voluntate: sed de hac materia plurimum scivit, quae potentiam Dei et bonitatem in summo experta fuit in se.
Secundus liber est de Angelis et de operibus sex dierum et de statu hominis: sed haec omnia scivit perfectissime beata Virgo: ergo secundum librum Sententiarum scivit in summo.
In tertio agitur de Incarnatione Verbi et virtutibus: sed in summo illam scivit, quae Incarnationem per experientiam cognovit, et virtutes in summo in se novit.
In quarto legitur de sacramentalibus gratiis et resurrectione: gratias sacramentales in summo habuit, ut patuit in superioribus: corpus etiam habuit post corpus Dei simillimum corporibus resurrectionis quae sunt immunia a culpa et a poena, corpora aliorum sanctorum in via sunt obnoxia culpae et poenae: et inter haec fuit corpus beatissimae Virginis medium, existens in poena et a culpa immune: et ita habuit corpus simillimum corporibus resurrectionis, et ita maxime cognovit naturam corporum resurrectionis.
Ex his igitur patet, quod beatissima Virgo Bibliam et Sententias in summo habuit 1.
QUESTION 110. Whether she knew the matter of the book of the Sentences?
After this inquiry is made about the matter of the book of the Sentences.
For the matter of the first book is reduced to two things, to the matter concerning the Trinity, and to the matter concerning predestination and the power and will of God. But she knew very much about this matter, who experienced in herself the power and goodness of God in the highest degree.
The second book concerns Angels and the works of the six days and the state of man. But the blessed Virgin knew all these things most perfectly. Therefore she knew the second book of the Sentences in the highest degree.
In the third book there is treatment of the Incarnation of the Word and of virtues. But she knew that in the highest degree, who knew the Incarnation through experience and knew the virtues in herself in the highest degree.
In the fourth book one reads about sacramental graces and resurrection. She had sacramental graces in the highest degree, as was clear in the preceding matters. She also had a body, after the body of God, most similar to the bodies of resurrection, which are immune from fault and from punishment; the bodies of other saints on the way are subject to fault and punishment. And between these was the body of the most blessed Virgin as a middle, existing in punishment and immune from fault. And so she had a body most similar to the bodies of resurrection, and so she most greatly knew the nature of the bodies of resurrection.
From these things therefore it is clear that the most blessed Virgin had the Bible and the Sentences in the highest degree 1.
