Question LXIV, opening
QUAESTIO LXIV. Qualiter donum intellectus fuerit in B. Virgine?
2. Item, Inter cognoscere creatum per creatum
QUESTION LXIV. How the gift of understanding was in the blessed Virgin?
After these things it is asked concerning the gift of understanding, how it was in the most blessed Virgin.
And it seems that it was similarly in a middle way between wayfarers and comprehensors:
1. For since the gift of understanding is to know God expressly in his image, and between knowing God through an image and without light with the obscurity of faith, and knowing uncreated light by uncreated light without image, the middle is to know in created light without image; just as one of the extremes belongs to pure wayfarers and the other belongs to comprehensors, so the middle will pertain to the middle state.
2. Likewise, between knowing the created thing through a created thing
