Holocaustum remissionis omnium peccatorum offeret princeps. Glossa: id est, Christus, in die sabbati, ad litteram, quando festum matris suae agitur. Princeps autem erit in medio eorum. Glossa: ingredientium scilicet et egredientium. Unde, Joan. I, 26: Medius vestrum stat, quem vos nescitis. Cum ingredientibus ingredietur, et cum egredientibus egredietur. Glossa: utriusque sexus, scilicet virtutis vel peccati, testis assistens.
DANIEL PROPHETA.
Anno tertio Joakim 1.
1. Imperatrix Prophetarum Maria dicitur mons comminutionis diaboli et peccatorum. Daniel.
Secundo, a dignitate, ibi, Et altitudo ejus nimia. Glossa: virtutum magnitudine. Tertio, a fortitudine, ibi, Et fortis. Glossa: contra diabolum, mortem, et peccatum. Require illud Proverbiorum, XXXI, 10: Mulierem fortem quis inveniet? Quarto, a misericordia ad omnes, ibi, Adspectus illius. Glossa: misericordiae,
with fervor it shall be opened, through largeness; and the prince will enter ... But the gate shall not be closed. Gloss: after the departure of the prince, until evening. And the people of the land will adore at the entrance of that gate. Gloss: when the gate will be opened; therefore it will not be closed, so that the people may adore after the prince. The prince will offer the holocaust of the remission of all sins. Gloss: that is, Christ, on the sabbath day, literally, when the feast of his mother is kept. But the prince will be in their midst. Gloss: namely of those entering and going out. Whence John 1:26: One stands in your midst, whom you do not know. With those entering he will enter, and with those going out he will go out. Gloss: standing by as witness of both sexes, namely of virtue or of sin.
DANIEL THE PROPHET.
In the third year of Joakim 1.
1. Mary, empress of the Prophets, is called the mountain of the breaking of the devil and of sinners. Daniel 2:34 and 35: A stone was cut off. Gloss: that is, Christ, from the mountain, that is, from Mary, who is a curdled mountain, a rich mountain, a mountain in which it has pleased God to dwell 2. Cut off without hands, that is, generated without the work of a man, and he struck the statue, that is, the devil and all the proud, and broke them to pieces. Psalm 17:43: I will crush them like dust, and so forth. But the stone which had struck the statue became a great mountain, great in nature, great in power, great in mercy, great in vengeance. And it filled the whole earth and heaven. Gloss: by glory, heaven. Habakkuk 3:3: His glory covered the heavens. By mercy, the earth. Psalm 32:5: The earth is full of the mercy of the Lord. Hell, with grief and misery. Whence Job 10:22: A land of misery and darkness.
2. Likewise, she herself is a tree commended in many ways, Daniel 4:7 and following. First, she is commended from commonness, there: I saw, and behold a tree in the middle of the earth, that is, Mary in the midst of the Church, looking upon all, and as far as lies in herself, holding herself commonly toward all. Second, from dignity, there: And its height was excessive. Bernard: "O Virgin, sublime branch, to what a height you raise your holy summit, even to him sitting on the throne, even to the Lord of majesty. Nor indeed is this wonderful, since you send the roots of humility on high 3." And great. Gloss: by the greatness of virtues. Third, from strength, there: And strong. Gloss: against the devil, death, and sin. Seek that saying of Proverbs 31:10: Who will find a strong woman? And its tallness touching heaven, that is, Christ God. Fourth, from mercy toward all, there: The sight of it. Gloss: of mercy,
