9. Item, Ipsa est templum majestatis. Ezechiel. XLIII, 4: Majestas Domini ingressa est templum, id est, uterum Mariae. Ad quid? ad sanctificandum, Psal. XLV, 5: Sanctificavit tabernaculum suum Altissimus.
Glossa: unde oritur sol justitiae: dies sabbati aperietur. Glossa: Septimo scilicet, in quo est requies: et in die kalendarum 2, id est, solemnitatum Filii sui, et in
to desperate sinners: Why will you die, house of Israel? that is, sinners, who are sons of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, who by the merits of the fathers ought deservedly to live. From this it is argued: If by the merits of Abraham and the others we can live, who were servants of God, therefore through her who is greater, namely the mother of life, we ought to live, because he gave every judgment of mercy to his mother, so that all may honor the mother, just as they honor the Son 1. And because we are sons of her mercy, the Lord cries that which immediately follows, Ezekiel 16:32: I do not will the death of one dying, namely the sinner, but rather that life may live. Gloss: the life of grace, by the prayers of the Virgin Mary.
6. Likewise, she herself is she who defends us from the wrath of God. Ezekiel 22:30: Thus says the Lord: I sought among them a man who would place a hedge between. Gloss: that is, intercession, and would stand opposed against me for the land, that is, for the sinner, lest I scatter it, namely swiftly, and I did not find one, because this was reserved for the Virgin Mary.
7. Likewise, she herself is the clothing of the sun of justice. Ezekiel 32:7: I will cover the sun, that is, Christ, with a cloud, that is, mercifully with humanity in my womb.
8. Likewise, she herself is the gate of the illumination of every creature. Ezekiel 43:1 and 2: He led me to the gate which looked toward the eastern way. And behold, the glory of the Lord of Israel, Jesus Christ, was entering, likewise by the eastern way, because he was conceived without sin; others, however, enter the world by the western way, of original fault. And his voice was. Gloss: God's, like the voice of many waters, and the earth shone from his majesty; this was properly done in the advent of Christ.
9. Likewise, she herself is the temple of majesty. Ezekiel 43:4: The majesty of the Lord entered the temple, that is, the womb of Mary. For what purpose? To sanctify: Psalm 45:5: The Most High sanctified his tabernacle. To fill it: whence there follows, verse 5: And behold, the house was filled with the glory of the Lord. To dwell with us: whence there follows, verse 7: And he said to me: Son of man, the place of my throne and the place of the steps of my feet, where I dwell, that is, in Mary, in the midst of the children of Israel forever. Gloss: not for a time. And below, verse 10: But you, son of man, show, by preaching and praising, to the house of Israel the temple, that is, Mary, according to length, breadth, height, and depth, concerning which he speaks well and sufficiently above.
10. Likewise, she herself is the closed gate. Ezekiel 44:1 and following: And he turned me to the way of the outer gate of the sanctuary, which looked toward the East, and it was closed. Gloss: the Virgin Mary, a virgin before birth, in birth, and after birth. And the Lord said to me: This gate shall be closed; it shall not be opened, and a man shall not pass through it, because the Lord God of Israel has entered through it. Gloss: with the doors closed. And it shall be closed for the prince. Gloss: for the Word of God, at whose coming it will be unlocked for his use. The prince himself. Gloss: that is, Christ, will sit in it, that he may eat. Gloss: with us, bread before the Lord. He shall enter by the way of the vestibule of the gate. Gloss: so that he may bring to grace those who cannot enter by themselves; for he himself has been poured into all; and he shall go out by its way. Gloss: poured around all those who are outside.
11. Likewise, he himself is the gate lying open through mercy to the sinner. Ezekiel 46:1 and following: The gate which looks toward the east. Gloss: whence the sun of justice rises: on the sabbath day it shall be opened. Gloss: namely on the seventh, in which there is rest; and on the day of the kalends 2, that is, of the solemnities of her Son, and in
