I, 36: Vocem meam, o Pater misericordiarum, audisti, et vocem Filii tui audisti: ne avertas aurem propitiationis, a singultu meo, et clamoribus cordis mei, pro peccatoribus, quos tuae pietati commendo.
EZECHIEL PROPHETA.
Et factum est in trigesimo anno 2.
1. Regina Prophetarum domus, in qua Filius humanitatem professus, factus est frater noster. Ezechiel. III, 24, dixit Dominus ad Ezechielem. Glossa: qui interpretatur roboratus a Deo, et significat Christum: Ingredere, subtiliter per fenestram vitream, largiter sicut pluvia in vellus, vincula omnia poenarum assumendo: mirabiliter, quem totus orbis nequit includere, tenellae Virginis utero includatur. Unde sequitur: Includere in medio domus tuae, id est, in utero Virginis Mariae.
2. Item, Ipsa est mater instructionis. Ezechiel. V, 5: Ista est Jerusalem, id est, Maria, in medio gentium posui eam. Glossa: id est, in umbilico mundi. Unde, Psal. LXXIII, 12: Operatus es salutem in medio terrae.
3. Ipsa etiam est porta, de qua infra dicetur, Ezechiel. XI, 1: Et introduxit me ad portam, id est, Mariam, domus Domini orientalem, per quam toti mundo lux effulsit, quae respicit ad solis ortum. Glossa: justitiae.
4. Item, Ipsa est mater justitiae. Primo, quia peperit judicium, et justitiam, scilicet Jesum Christum, qui est justitia et sanctificatio nostra 3. Secundo, quia ipsa numquam oculos suos levavit ad aliquod malum. Tertio, quia nullum contristavit, sed omnes laetificavit. Quarto, quia per vim nihil rapuit: quod Heva non fecit, quae divinitatem rapere voluit, et felicitatem amisit. Quinto, quia panem suum, id est, corpus Filii tribuit in altari quotidie esurienti. Sexto, quia nudum peccatorem operit vestimento veniae, justum gratiae, electum gloriae, Filium Dei humanae substantiae.
5. Item, Ipsa est mater vitae. Ezechiel. XVI, 31: Haec dicit Dominus, scilicet
through death. See poor me, Mary, the mother of your only-begotten Son, because I am full of bitterness in the soul which the sword has passed through; full of bitterness in the ears, hearing the cry of the Son crying: Why have you forsaken me? hearing the cry of him taking leave of me and saying: Woman, behold your son 1. Full of bitterness in the eyes, because I saw him crowned with thorns, pierced by the lance, on every side stained with blood; because now I am full of bitterness, I ask that sinners be full of mercy, the just of grace, the elect of glory. There follows, Lamentations 1:36: My voice, O Father of mercies, you have heard, and the voice of your Son you have heard: do not turn the ear of propitiation away from my sobbing and from the cries of my heart for sinners, whom I commend to your loving-kindness.
EZEKIEL THE PROPHET.
And it happened in the thirtieth year 2.
1. The queen of the Prophets is the house in which the Son, having professed humanity, was made our brother. Ezekiel 3:24, the Lord said to Ezekiel. Gloss: which is interpreted strengthened by God, and signifies Christ: Enter, subtly through the glass window, abundantly like rain upon the fleece, taking on all the bonds of punishments; wonderfully, he whom the whole world cannot enclose is enclosed in the womb of the tender Virgin. Whence it follows: To be enclosed in the midst of your house, that is, in the womb of the Virgin Mary.
2. Likewise, she herself is the mother of instruction. Ezekiel 5:5: This is Jerusalem, that is, Mary; I have placed her in the midst of the nations. Gloss: that is, in the navel of the world. Whence Psalm 73:12: You have worked salvation in the midst of the earth.
3. She herself also is the gate concerning which it will be said below, Ezekiel 11:1: And he brought me to the gate, that is, Mary, the eastern gate of the house of the Lord, through which light shone forth to the whole world, which looks toward the rising of the sun. Gloss: of justice.
4. Likewise, she herself is the mother of justice. First, because she bore judgment and justice, namely Jesus Christ, who is our justice and sanctification 3. Second, because she herself never raised her eyes to any evil. Third, because she saddened no one, but made all glad. Fourth, because she seized nothing by force: which Eve did not do, for she wished to seize divinity and lost happiness. Fifth, because she gives her bread, that is, the body of the Son, on the altar daily to the hungry. Sixth, because she covers the naked sinner with the garment of pardon, the just person with the garment of grace, the elect person with the garment of glory, and the Son of God with the garment of human substance.
5. Likewise, she herself is the mother of life. Ezekiel 16:31: Thus says the Lord, namely
