LIBER REGUM PRIMUS.
Fuit vir unus de Ramathaim Sophim 1.
1. Regina caelorum est arca exsultationis in tabernaculis justorum, et arca timoris in tabernaculis daemoniorum et malorum. I Regum, IV, 5 et seq. Cumque venisset, per nativitatem in mundum, arca foederis Domini, id est, Maria, in castra, tribulatorum, tentatorum, et totius militantis Ecclesiae, timuerunt Philistiim, id est, daemones, dicentes: Vae nobis! Venit enim illa, cui dictum est, Genes. III, 15: Inimicitias ponam inter te, etc. Non enim fuit tanta exsultatio, scilicet peccatorum, heri et nudiustertius, quando non habebant talem adjutricem. Et dixerunt Philistiim: Quaenam est vox clamoris magni in castris Hebraeorum? Psal. CXVI, 15: Vox exsultationis et salutis in tabernaculis justorum. Et cognoverunt quod arca Domini venisset in castra. Et dixerunt: Vae nobis! Illi autem, scilicet Hebraei, bene nobis. Quis nos salvabit de manu deorum sublimium istorum? Ubi enim ipsa est per adjutorium, ibi et Trinitas Deus.
2. Item, Ipsa est sol ardens, mater calefactionis frigidorum filiorum Adam. I Regum, XI, 9: Cras erit vobis salus, gratiae et veniae, cum incaluerit sol, id est, Maria. Numquid non incaluit, cum illi tota deitas substantialiter illapsa est? Hic est sol, tripliciter nos urens. Unde dicitur, Eccli. XLIII, 4: Tripliciter sol exurens montes, radios igneos exsufflans, etc.
3. Ipsa est etiam cornu unctionis, ex quo unguntur ad dignitatem, ad sanctitatem, ad venustatem. I Regum, XVI, 1 et seq.: Dixitque Dominus, Pater, ad Samuelem, id est, Christum: Imple cornu tuum, id est, Mariam, oleo, id est, teipso, et omni gratia: quod factum est in incarnatione. Et unges, inde reges, et sacerdotes, et filios Dei, quemcumque monstravero tibi. Unde Bernardus: "De plenitudine ejus accipiunt singuli, et universi 2, etc."
4. Item, Ipsa est civitas, et domus satietatis. I Regum, XX, 6: Rogavit me David ut iret celeriter: quod factum est in incarnatione, quando etiam praevenit Angelum, quem miserat ad Mariam Virginem gloriosam, in Bethleem, civitatem suam, sanctissimam, et opulentissimam. Unde sequitur: Quia victimae solemnes Deo, Angelis, justis, peccatoribus, ibi sunt universis contribulibus suis. Psal. LXXXVI, 3: Gloriosa dicta sunt de te, civitas Dei, id est, Maria!
5. Item, Ipsa est refraenatrix irae Dei, quoad peccatores, quae David, id est, Christum, ab interfectione aeterna, Nabal stulti, id est, peccatoris refraenavit, signata per Abigail, quae, I Reg. There was one man from Ramathaim Sophim 1.
1. The Queen of the heavens is the ark of exultation in the tabernacles of the just, and the ark of fear in the tabernacles of demons and evil persons. I Kings IV, 5 and following: And when the ark of the covenant of the Lord, that is, Mary, had come through the nativity into the world, into the camp of the troubled, the tempted, and of the whole Church militant, the Philistines, that is, the demons, feared, saying: Woe to us! For she has come, to whom it was said, Genesis III, 15: I will put enmities between you, etc. For there was not such great exultation, namely of sinners, yesterday and the day before, when they did not have such a helper. And the Philistines said: What is this voice of great shouting in the camp of the Hebrews? Psalm CXVI, 15: The voice of exultation and salvation is in the tabernacles of the just. And they knew that the ark of the Lord had come into the camp. And they said: Woe to us! But they, namely the Hebrews, said: Good for us. Who will save us from the hand of these sublime gods? For where she is by help, there also is God the Trinity.
2. Likewise, she is the burning sun, the mother of warming the cold sons of Adam. I Kings XI, 9: Tomorrow there will be salvation for you, of grace and pardon, when the sun grows warm, that is, Mary. Did she not grow warm, when the whole deity substantially slipped into her? This is the sun burning us in three ways. Hence it is said, Ecclesiasticus XLIII, 4: The sun burning mountains threefold, breathing out fiery rays, etc.
3. She is also the horn of anointing, from which they are anointed unto dignity, unto sanctity, unto beauty. I Kings XVI, 1 and following: The Lord, the Father, said to Samuel, that is, Christ: Fill your horn, that is, Mary, with oil, that is, with yourself and with every grace; this was done in the incarnation. And from it you shall anoint kings and priests and sons of God, whomever I shall show you. Hence Bernard: "From her fullness individuals and all receive 2, etc."
4. Likewise, she is the city and house of satisfaction. I Kings XX, 6: David asked me that he might go quickly; this was done in the incarnation, when he even anticipated the Angel whom he had sent to the glorious Virgin Mary, in Bethlehem, his own city, most holy and most rich. Hence it follows: Because the solemn victims for God, Angels, the just, and sinners are there for all his fellow-tribesmen. Psalm LXXXVI, 3: Glorious things are said of you, city of God, that is, Mary!
5. Likewise, she is the restrainer of the wrath of God with respect to sinners, who restrained David, that is, Christ, from the eternal killing of foolish Nabal, that is, the sinner; she is signified by Abigail, who, I Kings XXV, 24 and following, fell at David's feet, humbling herself in all things.
