MANUSCRIPT CODICES.
Only these have occurred: at Paris, in Victor, manuscript codices 412 and 413, large folio parchment, from the gift of Adenulf of Anagni, provost of Saint-Omer and canon of the church of Paris, and once bishop-elect of the same, who died in the year 1289, and so thirteenth century. From these codices the Lyons edition was made. It also exists in the Sorbonne, medium folio parchment codex, number 1, page 517, of approximately the same age.
VOLUME VIII.
1. On the Lamentations of Jeremiah. Beginning: Isaiah 23: Behold, those seeing will cry out, the angels of peace will weep bitterly, etc. 2. On the book of Baruch. Beginning: Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. 3. On the book of Daniel the Prophet. Beginning: I illuminate doctrine for all like the dawn, etc. Ecclesiasticus 24. 4. On the twelve Minor Prophets. Beginning: The bones of the twelve prophets spring up from their place, for they strengthened Jacob and redeemed themselves in the faith of their virtue. Ecclesiasticus 49. Pignon and Valladolid praise them. No older edition has occurred to me except the commentary on the twelve Minor Prophets, Cologne, Quesnell press, 1536, folio, which exists at Paris in Saint-Genevieve and the Sorbonne.
MANUSCRIPT CODICES.
Brother Peter of Prussia testifies that he saw all of them, but none have occurred to me thus far. Only this comes to be noted about the commentary on the twelve prophets: that a certain commentary with the same beginning is attributed to Stephen Langton, an Englishman flourishing in the thirteenth century, a manuscript copy of which is preserved at Paris in Navarre, small folio parchment and of better note; but when collation has been made, apart from that little verse of Ecclesiasticus with which each begins, they have nothing in common, so that his own work stands for each.

EARLIER EDITIONS.
They came forth on the four Gospels by the care of Cologne doctors, especially Gerard of Hardenwick, pastor of St. Columba. Hagenau, by the press of Henry Gran, at the expense of John Rimnam, 1504, 1505, and 1506, folio, three volumes, Gothic paper. This edition exists at Paris in Navarre, but On John in the Sorbonne. On John separately had previously come forth among incunabula, without place, year, or name of printer, without numbers or catchwords. This folio edition exists in the same Navarre. In these editions, as in the Lyons edition, it is noted at the beginning that this exposition on John was read by Albert at Rome, when he went there under the pontificate of Alexander IV on the occasion of the book which William of Saint-Amour had written against our men and the Minors. On the Apocalypse came forth at Basel, Jacob of Pforzheim, 1506 quarto, with the preface of our editor Bernard of Luxembourg, who also added two tables, and a third which indicates with asterisks the places elsewhere corrupted and restored by him; and besides Albert's commentary on the prologue of Gilbert of Poitiers he prefixes another of his own on the same. This edition is among our men of Rouen and at Rome in the Barberini.

Peter of Prussia saw all of them; he asserts that separately On Matthew is preserved at Cologne among our men in Albert's own hand, and in the same hand On Luke at Ratisbon, but On John at Nuremberg, in both places among our men. English catalogue, volume I, part II, number 253 on Matthew; number 254 on Mark and Luke; volume II, part I, number 1801 on Luke. Clairvaux: On the four Gospels, two volumes, folio. In Sanderus, part II in the valley of St. Martin, page 209 already cited, On the Apocalypse is praised. In the Sorbonne just cited there exists a large folio parchment codex from the legacy of John of Deventer, who was living around 1333, a Sorbonne fellow, but the codex seems older; in it, moreover, is 1. A commentary on the seven canonical epistles, namely the one which was published under the name of St. Thomas of Aquino, and also under the name of Brother Nicholas of Gorran. 2. This commentary on the Apocalypse, published under the name of Blessed Albert the Great in just as many words from beginning to end; but in the codex of each commentary the author is silent.

ANCIENT EDITIONS.
An old edition is praised in the English catalogue, volume II, in the library of John More, under this title: Notable and formal sermons of Master Albert the Great, Order of Preachers, on the season and on the saints through the circle of the year, printed by Michael Griffin in the town of Reutlingen. The same at Cologne, Arnold Terhucuen, 1474, folio. The same by the care of our John Andrew Coppenstein, Mainz, John Aleimen, 1616 octavo. Later, On the Season, interpolated and enlarged by Brother Simon Okolski, Order of Preachers, Krakow, Łukasz Kupisz, 1649 quarto. Alva (Sun of Truth, column 53) says that Sermons of Albert with another beginning, namely Since of truth, are cited by our William Carnifex and John Bunder in their index of manuscript codices of Belgium, and are found among our men at Ghent, likewise at Nivelles. In truth, the Lyons booksellers in their four-part catalogue of Albert's works praise sermons of the same man with this beginning, Since of truth, and they declare them formerly published in print. However the matter stands, the trust for it is in their hands; it will be another work of sermons, and from the things soon to be reported it will stand that, besides the printed ones, other sermons of Albert are preserved in various libraries. The thirty-two sermons On the Eucharist came forth in octavo in Gothic type among incunabula, without year, place, and name of printer. This edition exists at Paris in Navarre. Likewise Mainz, by John of Guldenschuff, 1477, folio. This is in the Sorbonne. See following volume XXI, article III. Later Mainz, 1615, octavo. On the Strong Woman. The work also came forth among incunabula in quarto paper at Rome, without place, year, and name of printer; this edition is in the same Navarre. Pignon and Valladolid praise it.

Peter of Prussia asserts that the Prayers on the Gospels exist at Cologne among our men. The Lyons editors testify that they give them from the Rennes Library. The same Prussian teaches that On the Eucharist is also held at Cologne, partly in the hand of the notary or companion who was at Albert's service, partly in the hand of Albert himself correcting, changing, or adding as seemed good to him. There are also quarto codices in the Utrecht Library on the Rhine, reviewed by Sanderus, part II, page 74. The cited Prussian saw On the Strong Woman at Cologne among our men. In the English catalogue, volume I, part II, codex 654: Albert on the strong woman. Clairvaux: On the chapter The strong woman. Paris, in the Sorbonne, there exists codex number 1, page 505, large folio parchment, bound with several other things. Alva, in his comic work Lawsuits of the Books, mocks our men, Lawsuit IX, page 50, because they ascribe this commentary On the Strong Woman to Albert; he says two codices, the Corbie codex and the English codex in Thomas James, page 81, where the manuscript books of the college of St. Benedict are reviewed, number 134, exhibit it among several works of St. Augustine. But surely he laughed alone; for however it may stand concerning that treatise of the Corbie and English codices, which I was not able to see, first no edition of the works of Augustine, not even the last, very ample one, made partly from Corbie codices, represents any treatise under this title On the Strong Woman, neither among the genuine nor among the supposititious. Besides, just as that commentary on chapter 31 of Proverbs has not even a crumb of the style of St. Doctor Augustine, so it breathes Albert's own style so much that nothing could do so more, and it shows itself his genuine offspring.

Beginning: Because through the angelic hierarchy, etc. 3. On Mystical Theology. Beginning: Truly you are a hidden God, etc. Isaiah 45. 4. On the eleven letters of Dionysius. Beginning: In this let him who glories glory, to know and recognize me. Jeremiah 9. Pignon and Valladolid praise all these things. No older edition, so far as I know, mentions them.
MANUSCRIPT CODICES.
Peter of Prussia saw works on all the works of the so-called Dionysius the Areopagite. Paris, in Victor, codex 958, folio paper, written in the year 1409, contains On the Celestial Hierarchy and the beginnings of the following work. Likewise codex 58, large folio paper, contains On Mystical Theology and on the letters. In Navarre, small folio parchment codex: Expositions of Lord Albert, of the Friars Preachers, formerly bishop of Ratisbon, on all the books of Dionysius and on the letters of the same. The codex seems fourteenth century. In the Augustinian library at the Pont Neuf, codex 191, small folio parchment, among the older ones, there exist On the Celestial Hierarchy, On Mystical Theology, and on the letters. The editors added to this volume the celebrated little work whose title is Compendium of Theological Truth. Its beginning: The sublimity of theological truth, etc. Since, namely, several older editions, even among incunabula, assert it for Albert the Great; nevertheless, because St. Antoninus in plain words adjudges that little work away from Albert, and the older men Pignon and Valladolid did not mention it, it seems more certain that it must be cut away and expunged from the index of Albert's genuine works.
