Little Question Four of Question Three

Whether the dreams of the insane and of fools have a presage of some truth

It is asked whether the dreams of the insane and of fools have a presage of some truth.

To this Albert, wishing to prove that the sending of dreams is not from spirits but from natural causes, answers affirmatively. He says that dreams having a presage are accustomed very often to occur to many insane and foolish persons.

But Lord Henry denies this, saying that he does not know where Albert read this or by what experience he learned it. For Henry himself never saw a fool prophesy or have a notable dream signifying future things. Indeed, because the phantastic power of fools is tumultuous with thoughts and passions, extremely distracted, restless, and confused, it is therefore extremely indisposed toward receiving revelations and dreams.
