Chapter XXIII. Whether the Sadducees Were Dositheans

I said above that Sadoc withdrew from Dositheus, who had transferred himself to the faction of the Samaritans. Therefore someone might think that the Sadducees were Dositheans, or, as Saint Epiphanius calls them, Dosithei. Yet this must be denied; and one must say that Sadoc dissented from Dositheus and fabricated a new sect from himself. For the Dositheans confessed the resurrection of bodies, as Saint Epiphanius says in heresy 13. But, as we saw above, both the Samaritans and Sadducees were its chief deniers. The same judgment applies to all the other doctrines which are connected and bound up with this one.
