Annotation CXCVIII, On God swearing (Psalm 109:4)

“The Lord hath sworn, and he will not repent.”

Annotatio CXCVIII

”The Lord hath sworn, and he will not repent.” — Psalm 109:4

Chrysostom, expounding these words, says that an oath in God is to be understood no otherwise than by a metaphor — just as we also say that there is anger in God.1 These [words] allude to Chrysostom’s teaching concerning the Oath, [as] altogether forbidden to all Christians. See Annotation 26 of book 6.
