”The Lord smelled the odor of sweetness.” — Genesis 8:21
Chrysostom, homily 27 on Genesis, expounding this, seems to assert that Circumcision, in the old law, conferred absolutely nothing to justice and the salvation of the soul1 — the opposite of which Augustine, with the rest of the theologians, holds.
