Annotation X, Whether the firmament is between the upper and lower waters (Genesis 1:6)

“Let there be a firmament.”

Annotatio X

”Let there be a firmament.” — Genesis 1:6

Augustine, in the 13th book of the Confessions, chapter 32, expounding this passage, writes that the firmament was made between the spiritual upper waters and the corporeal lower ones;1 which — as said not considerately enough in so obscure a matter — he revokes in the second book of the Retractations, chapter 6.
