Mind of the Church exists to bring the Church’s great commentaries and treatises into English — carefully, faithfully, and without charge. As of this week, the library holds its first four complete works:
- Annotations on the Old Testament — Book V of Sixtus of Siena’s Bibliotheca Sancta: a Preface and 264 annotations and censures upon the interpreters of the Old Testament, from Genesis to the Machabees.
- Annotations on the New Testament — Book VI of the same work: 348 annotations, Matthew through the Apocalypse.
- Commentaries and Disputations on Genesis, Volumes I and II — Benito Pererius’s great Jesuit commentary, presented with the Latin and English side by side.
Every work can be read online — chapter by chapter, annotation by annotation, with the marginal apparatus of the printed editions preserved — or downloaded as a PDF. The two books of Sixtus are joined by a combined edition with five indexes spanning both Testaments, and the same indexes may be browsed online.
More is in translation. If you would like one email when a new work or note is published — and nothing else, ever — the box below is for you.
