Benito Pererius — his name is rendered Benedictus Pererius on his Latin title pages, and Benedict Pereira, Benet Perera, or Pereyra in modern catalogs — was a Spanish Jesuit of Valencia who taught philosophy, theology, and Scripture at the Roman College for most of his life.
His great work of exegesis, the Commentaries and Disputations on Genesis, appeared in four volumes and became one of the most consulted Catholic commentaries of its age: Cornelius à Lapide and a century of commentators after him drew upon it freely.
He also wrote on Daniel, on Romans, on the Apocalypse, and against the vanities of astrology and magic — a subject that fills the second part of the second book of the Genesis commentary offered here.
