PRAYER OF DIVINE ALBERT THE GREAT

Most wholesome concerning the sacrosanct sacrament of the Eucharist.

ALMIGHTY everlasting God, only-begotten Son of God, who from our own and from us and for us assumed body and blood and human soul and spirit, and through holy Jeremiah the Prophet, whom you sanctified in the womb, deigned to pronounce, saying that you would fill the souls of priests with fatness and that your people would abound with good things ¹, fill our souls with the sacrament of your body, and fill our desire among good things, and grant that the admirable sacrament of your body and blood may work in us every effect of its truth, power, unity, charity, purity, piety, devotion, and sanctity, so that just as you are in the Father and the Father is in you ², and you are in us through the incorrupt nature of your assumption, so we may remain in you through the integrity of body and soul and spirit, incorporated into you by your sacrosanct body, unto the saving communion of the sacraments and the sweet participation of you, infused with your sacrosanct blood unto every sprinkling and cleansing of our inner parts; redeemed by your sacrosanct soul with the price of salvation, unto the true reconciliation of the guilty with the Father and the Holy Spirit; and vivified with redemption by your sacrosanct Spirit, unto every restoration of the spiritual life lost in us and illumination of our senses; made pleasing to you by your sacrosanct divinity unto every perfection of virtue, and receiving from the Eucharist, which is the vessel of all grace, from your fullness grace for grace, cause us to communicate in the graces in which your holy Apostles and disciples communicated when receiving this sacrament from your hand. Work in us the sense and experience of spiritual refreshment by the intercession of all those who have been spiritually refreshed by you. Work in us faith, love, piety, devotion, the spiritual perfection of sacrosanct anointing which blessed Mary Magdalene showed to you at supper, solicitude, frequency, laboriousness, diligence in serving your members, so that we may merit to receive from you, the head, the experiential sense of spiritual refreshment. Work in us the sense of Lazarus and of all resting with you in your good things, to whom you have disposed a kingdom, just as the Father disposed that kingdom to you, that they may eat and drink upon your table in your kingdom ³, because truly blessed are they who will eat the bread, which you are, in the kingdom of God ⁴. Work in us the forgiving zeal of Peter, and one destroying all things which are contrary to your will, which Peter conceived at your supper against the betrayer. Work in us the quiet, resolution, perfect lulling to sleep away from the delights of the world, felicity, and taste of Saint John, by which, inclined to your breast, we may receive both a draught of wisdom and a taste of your most happy sweetness and goodness. Work in us right faith, firm hope, perfect charity, by the intercession of all your Apostles and disciples receiving this sacrament from your hand, and cause us always to spurn the betrayal of Judas, and may that saving influence often come into our mind, which this sacrament designates, by which, flowing into the blessed in heaven according to deity, you work in them every perfection of their beatitude, who with God the Father, etc.
