Sequitur, Deuteron. XXXIII, 22: Dan quoque ait: Dan catulus leonis: fluet largiter de Basan.

Benedictio Dan tria complectitur. Primum est humilitas, ibi, Catulus. Secundum est fortitudo, ibi, Leonis. Tertium est largitas, ibi, Fluet largiter, etc.

Et hoc modo eorum sufficientia sumitur: Benedictio vel est cordis, vel operis. Si cordis, sic est humilitas cordis. Si autem est operis, haec est duplex, vel in se, et sic est fortitudo operis: vel in aliis, et sic est largitas muneris.

Haec autem in summo habuit beatissima Virgo: quia ultra omnem creaturam humillima super omnes exaltata est. Item, mulier fortissima est: quia vicit mundum, Deum, et diabolum. Item, largissima fuit: quia Deo dedit mundum, et homini in mundo regnum caelorum, et ipsum Deum.

The blessing of Dan embraces three things. The first is humility, there, Whelp. The second is fortitude, there, Of a lion. The third is largess, there, He will flow abundantly, etc.

And in this way their sufficiency is taken: a blessing is either of the heart or of work. If of the heart, thus it is humility of heart. But if it is of work, this is twofold: either in oneself, and thus it is fortitude of work; or in others, and thus it is largess of gift.

The most blessed Virgin had these things in the highest degree, because, humblest beyond every creature, she was exalted above all. Likewise, she is the strongest woman, because she conquered the world, God, and the devil. Likewise, she was most generous, because she gave the world to God, and to humanity in the world she gave the kingdom of heaven and God himself.

And thus it is clear that the blessed Virgin had the blessing of Dan in the highest degree.
