Question 122. Whether she had the gift of a pastor?
QUAESTIO CXXII. Utrum habuerit donum pastoris?
QUESTION 122. Whether she had the gift of a pastor?
There follows: But others as pastors 1.
In what way the most blessed Virgin had this gift, seek in the treatise on the sacrament of order; and in what way she fed us, seek in the treatise on the beatitudes in the degrees of poverty. Thus therefore the most blessed Virgin also had this fourfold set of graces.
Response to the questions about gratuitous graces and graces given freely.
From these things it is manifest that the most blessed Lady had the universality of gratuitous graces and of graces given freely, which in every way we believe to be true.
Solution of the objections.
For the solution of the objections to the contrary, we speak by distinguishing thus: of gifts given freely and not making one pleasing, certain ones are given for ministry and not for one’s own advancement, as the prophecy of Balaam and of Caiaphas; certain ones are given for the proper advancement of oneself and not of others, as the gifts of instruction of the most blessed Lady. And of such gifts, certain ones are given for perfecting need, certain ones for adorning power, and certain ones for ennobling the creature and honoring the person. And thus the most blessed Virgin had gifts of this kind not for ministry, but for the fullness of adornment, for the increase of perfection and delight, as matter of praise and increase of honor, and as the complement of all spiritual goods.
