tempore. Luc. II, 7: Peperit Filium suum primogenitum, et pannis eum involvit. O virgo, tu peperisti mirabiliter, sicut Isaias hic dicit.
Laudant te Angeli propter tria, quia ille quem tu genuisti, restauravit, reddendo deperditum, multiplicando numerum, augmentando superadditum, quartam scilicet hierarchiam. Laudant te homines, propter tria, quia genuisti eis redemptorem, justificatorem, glorificatorem. Laudant te corporalia, quia ille quem tu genuisti, immutavit corporalia, innovando, nobilitando, et omnia in Christi corpore divinitati uniendo. Laudat te Pater, propter castitatem. Laudat te Filius, propter humilitatem. Laudat te Spiritus sanctus, propter bonitatem. Laudat te omnis creatura, o Virgo Maria: genuisti enim caelis illuminatorem, immundis inundatorem, curvis erectorem, tristibus consolatorem, vinctis consolatorem, pauperibus ditatorem, desperatis confortatorem, errantibus reductorem, certantibus coronatorem.
JEREMIAS PROPHETA.
Verba Jeremiae filii Helciae 1.
1. Prophetarum Domina, Virgo Maria, est virga percutiens daemones, corrigens peccatores, et vigilans super electos. Jerem. I, 11 et 12: Quid tu vides, Jeremia? Et dixit: Virgam vigilantem, id est Mariam, vigilantem fideliter super electos, ut mater super filium, vigilantem misericorditer, sicut magister super discipulum, ego video. Sic ipsa super peccatores, ut eos corrigat, vigilat terribiliter super daemones. Et dixit Dominus ad me: Bene vidisti, quia vigilabo ego, sicut pater, ipsa vero vigilabit sicut mater, super verbo meo, ut faciam illud.
Jerem. XI, 16: Olivam
time. Luke II, 7: She bore her firstborn Son and wrapped him in cloths. O virgin, you gave birth wondrously, as Isaiah says here.
Likewise, you gave birth incorruptibly, like a star to a ray, a rod to a flower, and a vine to odor.
Likewise, you gave birth usefully, because he is the restorer of Angels and men, and therefore you are praised and blessed by Angels and men and by corporeal things. Angels praise you for three things, because he whom you begot restored by giving back what was lost, by multiplying the number, by increasing what was added over, namely the fourth hierarchy. Men praise you for three things, because you begot for them a redeemer, justifier, glorifier. Corporeal things praise you, because he whom you begot changed corporeal things by renewing, ennobling, and uniting all things in the body of Christ to divinity. The Father praises you because of chastity. The Son praises you because of humility. The Holy Spirit praises you because of goodness. Every creature praises you, O Virgin Mary, for you begot for the heavens an illuminator, for the unclean a flooder, for the bent a straightener, for the sorrowful a consoler, for the bound a consoler, for the poor an enricher, for the desperate a comforter, for the erring a leader-back, for those contending a crowner.
JEREMIAH THE PROPHET.
The words of Jeremiah, son of Helcias 1.
1. The Lady of the Prophets, the Virgin Mary, is a rod striking demons, correcting sinners, and keeping watch over the elect. Jeremiah I, 11 and 12: What do you see, Jeremiah? And he said: I see a watching rod, that is, Mary, watching faithfully over the elect as a mother over a son, watching mercifully like a master over a disciple. Thus she watches over sinners, to correct them, and she watches terribly over demons. And the Lord said to me: You have seen well, because I shall watch, as a father, but she will watch as a mother, over my word, that I may do it.
2. Likewise, she is the throne of mercy, to which sinners are mercifully gathered. Jeremiah III, 17: In that time, that is, of grace, they will call Jerusalem, that is, Mary, the throne of the Lord, on which God sat through mercy, by incarnating himself, and all nations will be gathered to her, that is, sinners, who there are absolved and are not punished according to their merits.
3. Likewise, she is the city and house of salvation. Jeremiah VIII, 14: Come together quickly, and let us enter the fortified city, that is, to Mary, fortified in nature, in grace, in glory; and let us be silent there. The Gloss: because we do not dare to entreat the Lord whom we have offended, but let her entreat and ask, because the Lord our God has made us be silent. The Gloss: because we offended him; and he gave us bitter water to drink. The Gloss: that is, we made sweet God bitter to us.
4. She is also the olive of all mercy and goodness. Jeremiah XI, 16: An olive
