We again commend to you this new edition, purged of many errors which it was almost impossible not to have crept into so long and difficult a work. We have restored the whole text of the Lyons edition, in almost the same order: namely, the philosophical works first; then the commentaries on diverse books of Sacred Scripture; the theological works on the book of the Sentences; this truly wonderful Summa, yielding only to that of the disciple Saint Thomas, perhaps by a long interval but still nearest; finally those things which Albert set forth in praise of the Mother of God and of the Most Holy Sacrament of the Eucharist.
All these things, religiously corrected and, as to authorities, recalled to the trustworthiness of the Vulgate version and of more accurate texts of Patrology, illustrated with the notes of Reverend Father Jammy and others, and arranged and divided into thirty-six volumes with many tables, we have dedicated to Our Most Holy Lord Leo XIII, Supreme Pontiff and restorer of theological studies, placing an end, with this last work, upon all the works which, according to our powers, both the works of the Fathers and those of the chief Theologians, we have published again through a long life in honor of the Church of Christ and of the propagation of sacred letters.
