Likewise Colbert 3362. In the books on Minerals he almost utterly overturned the alchemical art. See book 3, treatise 1, chapter 9, where he has thus: For this reason I caused it to be tested, that the alchemical gold which came to me, and likewise silver, after it had sustained six or seven fires, immediately, when further fired, is consumed and lost, and as it were returns to dross. He indeed does not hold the transmutation of metals impossible, if someone imitates nature by art, but he denies that this art was invented by anyone up to his own times or completed in practice.
