We distinguish the works of Blessed Albert the Great by a threefold index. The first displays the works which came forth in the Lyons edition of the year 1651. The second displays the works not published in that collection, but praised by our Ludovicus of Valladolid and Laurence Pignon. The third displays the works omitted by them, but indicated by the Lyons printers in the Index published by them, adding to each article the manuscript codices either seen by us or more accurately reviewed by others, and also the ancient editions, and also subjecting our annotations and judgment to each.
The works of Blessed Albert the Great, bishop of Ratisbon, of the Order of Preachers, which thus far could be had, published under the Very Reverend Fathers Thomas Turco, Nicholas Rodulphius, and John Baptist de Marinis, masters general of the same Order, brought to light by the study and labor of the Reverend and Most August Father Brother Peter Jammy, doctor of sacred theology, of the Grenoble convent of the same Order. MANUSCRIPT CODICES.
Peter of Prussia testifies that all the things above are held at Cologne among our men, and he also adds that manuscripts on the Logic of Albert himself are preserved among our men of Soest and Ratisbon. They were offered for sale at Paris in the year 1303 from the book of the rector of the university under this title: Commentaries of Brother Albert on the Old Logic, forty-two pieces. On the books of the Prior Analytics, eighteen pieces. Of the Posterior Analytics, twenty-one pieces. Of the Sophistical Refutations, sixteen pieces. Of the Topics, twenty-one pieces. At Venice among the codices of Cardinal Bessarion, Pluteus 8: The Old Art of Logic. In the English catalogue, volume I, part II, number 720: Albert the Great on the books of Porphyry: of the Categories, and On Interpretation. And number 732: On the whole philosophy of Aristotle. And number 329: On the books of the Sophistical Refutations.
